mine. And I get tired, run out of money and
sometimes, yes, run out of hope. I can't always
be that strong mother who can handle anything.
Please don't tell me I have done enough, please.....
that does not make me feel better, that doesn't
matter. Her murder deserves to be solved and
laws need to be changed so we stop losing all
these beautiful young girls. This  shouldn't be such a lonely path.....

 

I know its not in vain. It is just selfishly, after all the sh*** I went through with the transmission last year, then the banker from hell almost costing me the house, then the pipes bursting and the car going bad again and it being the 10th anniversary with no suspects matching our DNA and the CARAVAN tours only occurring bonce a year and 1 week of 3 is now through, I am selfishly feeling "Aw come on, don't I get to get at least 1 touchdown.......... I always go on but you know how the years were at DOC. A decade is almost harder than the murder to take because it becomes , realistically so, a solitary path. I just really really needed this to be a good CARAVAN or at least to have NAtional do a story. I have sent 100 emails to the regional city stations and probably about 30 to national. I haven't heard if anyone else is sending national queries about me soooooo. But I am a bobo doll (the clown blowup dolls with the sand in the bottom, you hit them and they fall sideways to the floor but bounce back up...problem is leaks occur........... Trying to breath. Working towards 10th anniversary of Brittany's murder/burial, to be able to be able to afford the 12th CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tour for anniversary & starting organizing my WALK WITH BRIT ON RT 666 TO DIMINISH RISK-a walk from Tulsa murder site to Capitol of Oklahoma to publicize need to pass Oklahoma's DNA at Arrest law after 6 years----but 1) Car is acting up-may be 2nd transmission,like last year's is dying--so may need new trans then 2) plumbers came today to find why upstairs tankless was not heating, why pipes in sinks back up from upstairs/downstairs toilets. RESULTS(a) tankless water heater may be wrong size,so might need new larger one--meaning rewiring-etc which warrenty might not cover (b) checking pipes, tried to find outside drain pipe--NOT.. If house doesn't have one, warrenty company won't let them rod pipes, and then they won't address problem so warrenty won't cover. This means if roots have blocked the pipe, I will have to pay for deconstruct and new system........really.......really....really

My 1st story came quick in Neb Of course Car was in shop for half a day in Sioux Falls so not a lot of time to drive around! Been in Rapid City and went to Mt Rushmore. Reaction in City has been great but again no story. People have aasked me how I do my CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER torus. I thought I would post the process here. Each time I go out I usually work 8-10 hours a day on getting the story out. I usually get 13-16 stories a CARAVAN.


The day before I get to a city (usually my last day at the previous city) I developed a pattern of going to TV station, newspaper and radio websites, reading about the reporters, producers, specific reporters/ media who report on things like our story or something in bio gives me a hook to use-- that is usually 3+ hrs of writing. Like on my drive to Rapid City, I stopped at every rest stop and a number of small towns. After I arrive in a city, if no one has contacted me, I usually send out more to Editors Anchors News Directors ,etc. In every city, even before I get a story, sometimes if or as part of story,I go to the Police station, sherrifs, State police, sometimes the chamber, victim advocates, I drive around the city and park in public places--at least 4-5 hrs exposure. I was all over Sioux Falls and even went to Mt Rushmore. I get great responses along the highway, in town, at these sites. For two years having more than a year inbetween without Britty's story being out there, decreases the probability that it is heard by someone who knows something. I have been asking for help from facebook friends to at least send emails, fax to National news because if the CARAVAN dies all the years of getting her story out on my own will die also. I guess I am begging for help On the road, at hotels, even this time people say they have never seen something like my SUV before and they are surprised NAtional news has not picked it up. My CARAVANs get may 1/10000 of the people that national news does. AND if National even considers it, they will only do that if I am on the road. It has killed me to wait a full year to do another CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tour. But I will be leaving in about 2 weeks if not sooner. What has made it finally happen is that SOME PEOPLE VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART (both genetically and emotionally!!! ), WHO HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THERE YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR WITH UNBELIEVABLE WORDS OF SUPPORT AND HOPE seemed to get it in their head they were not doing enough and sent a truly generous donation. I am not good at asking for help. So yes you Jane, family and friends, who sent This gift to fill the tank a number of times!!! remain close to my heart, even without the gift. I know you have always known this. I hope to be out at least 4 weeks and this makes it possible. As for the direction of the CARAVAN I asked people for ideas of where I should stop. I think there is an older post with all the cities we have had stories in (108 reporters across 46 states and about 86 cities. Please!!! Any feedback for where people want us to stop will be welcomed even if I have to zig and zag. You can email at therapoet@aol.com. I always have a semi plan but go where I am drawn. The 8 men with almost ALL FEMALE VICTIMS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE accumulated a total of 21 felony arrests before finally being identified. Only seven of the prior felony arrests were for violent crimes – the remaining two-thirds of arrests were for non-violent felonies. They were free to commit--60 violent crimes, including 53 murders and rapes, that could have been prevented.

THE COMING OF A NEW YEAR 2013-TOUCH THE LIFE OF A SURVIVING FAMILY OF HOMICIDE!!

Between now and New Years, if you have read our story, feel our loss, want to do something to help, want to connect, whatever led you to us, whatever had an impact on you, we are glad you are here.

You can never imagine how much it means for surviving families of homicide to know their story touches people. 

If you are so moved, make a committment for 2013 to touch someone who may really need it. We will even give you some ideas. Even if you came here in your searches about the Sandy Hook disaster and families losing loved ones to murder, there are ways you can help them but even more so all the other thousands of survivng homicide families.

Brittany was buried on her 19th birthday 10/4/04 after being raped and suffocated in her 2nd story apartmen right next to the highschool she graduated from. This year she would have been 27.

Pledg to yourself  and to someone else to help make the world safer. There are so many small chnages that can have a great impact.... from getting your neighborhood to all turn on porchlites to writing a lawmaker about needed law change, check with your local police to learn about families of unsolved or solved homicides or abductions. Help them create an event to educate about the risk of others losing loved ones if there are weaknesses in laws for those caught for those crimes help us chnage the sexual assualt and DNA laws....

Impact the world as you step into 2013. Please remember there are many families that are still living the horror of losing a loved one to homicide, a singular one not a mass shooting. Both are such terrible losses but so mnay of these solitary homicides impact families in isolation. As I have travelled 67000 miles across the country on my CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tours, I have met many of these families who live the path of loss in solitary echoes. Yet their horror needs the same supportas the Sandy Hook families do, but often do not get it because their losses are not as publicized (which draws attention to what has happened.

BRITTANY WAS TAKEN FROM US BUT WE CONTNUE TO BREATH FOR HER. WE CAN ALL BREATH THE WORLD INTO SAFER LIVING THROUGH EACH LITTLE STEP WE TAKE.  Touch someone in your community who has experienced such a loss, help us chnage the laws to DNA at Arrest, help us with the next CARAVAN TO CATHC A KILLER  tour. Impressed with Response to the CARAVAN

This week, June 4-8th I have been in Tulsa and OKC. It appears the car is still generating interest because the last 3 days more than 500 views!!! Thank you everyone who is taking the time to check us out. The car (and I) were at Bricktown around lunch time. A friend and part of her family and I were watching the Red Dirt Procession of Dancers at the opening of the Pow Wow. WHat a show of honor for heritage, for those beyond our living realm. It just reinforced the power of memory and doing things in honor of those who have stepped from our physical connection

Heading into Boston just a bit before noon. Thanks all who have visited our webpage, have honked as we drive around. Thansk to all the individuals who talked to us in front of the camera or who just talked to me as they passed by. Those hugs are what keps me going!!!! We had an absolutely unbelievable story fom CBS Boston. Reporter Beth Germano and her photographer (forgot his name!!) basically waited all day for us to fight traffic jam after traffic jam after traffic jam from NYC to Boston. Then they were working on a very tight deadline for the 11 pm news as we filmed way into the dark. Yet the story looked like it had been worked on for days!!!!

Just looked at stats from just yesterday and today. This morning more than 250 views. Yesterday eve either due to the drive (yeah right) or the 11pm news over 100 views--AT !!#) pm! Days like this warm my heart so. We filmed in HArvard square and all the young people I was able to talk to was so important. Don't know how long I can stay out but days like the last 3-5 make me want to be out for weeks on end Thanks Brittany

Decided to stay over in Nashville--with heavy winds and possible snow--my car will float all over the road.

This gives me one more day for a story here in Nashville and also to see if National gets interested. Nashville has been in the forefront of changing many DNA laws, making the process more efficient and pushing for victim's rights. That being said, I am asking, pleading for anyone, everyone who has a minute, to send an email, fax something, call any of the national news, say "do you know about the mom who has travelled 54000 mile over last 4 years trying to help find her daughter's killer and change laws to save other parents from such horror?" May describe how I am cutting this one short because of funds because they have all been self funded. National, when interested seems to be only when I am on the road. Will 9th CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER BE LAST?

Ah well...no responses from NYC/national media/nor from anyone who, (from my suggestions), followed up my national queries with their emails nor ideas about other media. If I didn't ask, I would never know if someone might know something. Guess will head home late wed or early Thursday. Someone said try sleeping in Wal-Mart parking lot. Could work for not having money and exposure. Although proud ...that I have done most of the 9 CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER- TOURS on my own funds (35-$45000) with my single limited income that goes to bills, crises like water heaters and broken cars and a little to son, by not eating out, nor going to movies, doing only what is free, travelling is just caravans no vacations, at the same time there is an ache in my heart that I can’t afford things or can’t raise interest in others helping raise funds for things like profilers, cards to be handed out in prison, reward funds, all which would help solve Brit’s murder. Sadly many of the unsolved murders are about lower andlower middle income families who justy don’t have resources or time to add to their investigation. I guess that is why I designed Brittany’s Bridge, trying to gather as many of the unsolved homicides as I can and get people to share the compiled and hopefully growing lists with their own PDS. Please keep spreading the word. I would really appreciate it if anyone wants to explain toe if any of these ideas are offensive or come across wrong

Please don't forget to spread the word about Brittany's Bridge. I am seeking out unsolved homicide survivor families and friends to contact me with whatever information they can share on their case. This will begin the foundation of a national network of all of these cases. Initially, in small numbers, we will exchange our stories with each other and share other unsolved homicides with the local P...D. I will create the MAster list. All you will be asked to do, is give the list to your detective or local PD. If you don't have anyone to give it to or feel uncomfortable, I will create a connection. I have walked into many PD's across the US and had conversations with their sargents etc. Just think if the group gets large enough, think of the network of information that will be shared. 9TH CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER-PART ONE

The Ninth CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER-PART ONE has begun. Memphis was unbelievable. Bofta Yiman, the Fox reporter and her photog spent a few hours with me. They aired our story at 5 and 9 that night and the morning show intro'd and aired it in different ways at least 4 times. People in the community let me know they saw it and were moved. Moved hopefully to look at the DNA at Arrest laws and rape laws and statutes.
Why is it that every time we finally catch a killer of a young woman, his DNA matches backwards over 10-15 years and multiple victims (I have many case examples of this). This often occurs for a few reasons. We find that these predators have been arrested but rapists often aren't convicted because the defense lawyers still, even in the modern world, develop some doubt with juries that somehow the victim's behaviors contributed to it. Yet rape has been proven to be a violent act that only uses the sexual act as a tool of violence.And judges and lawmakers can have these unsupported beliefs. Thus they don't even get convicted and are free to rape again and if their state doesn't take DNA at arrest, there is no record, no way to match his DNA to the crimes. It remains unidentified. And if they get convicted many judges will give them minimal sentences so they are often let out before their DNA even gets up into the system.

Have a story with Knoxville tomorrow and then a story in the afternoon in Roanoke!!!. Then to NYC. If anyone knows media there it is a hard nut to crack!!

WEAVING THROUGH WALLS-THE HEALING FROM LOSS

THIS IS THE FIRST OF AT LEAST 8 POSTS Along with myself, a small group has started discussing an Art Show//Seminar event in early December to benefit both Brittany's Bridge and the CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tours. Not only do we want all forms of art from survivors of violence/murder/crimes and anyone else who has a compassion towards lessening the suffering from such crimes, but we will also be having presentations on issues surrounding the occurrence of violence, especially towards women. We are looking for donated art or art that the artist is willing to give 50% of sale to the event. People have already talked to us about paintings, sketches, sculpture, found art, poems surrounded by art. There will be more notices regarding the event but this is an initial request for art. Funds raised by this event will be focused on providing support for materials and travel for Brittany's Bridge. Still in its infancy, Brittany's Bridge evolved from my own personal experience both as a survivor and talking to thousands of families who have survived homicides and abductions of family members. This intervention type of organization is designed to both help survivor families and friends navigate the unfamiliar path of a homicide and/or abduction investigation, whether short or long term and to also train 1st responders to the events of homicides and abductions as to what (even when done out of kindness)can do harm to these surviving members. Most know the CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tours(visit brittanyphillipsmurder.net) Read on this blog about the CARAVAN tours. 8 have been completed. Each time they have been done on my own funds; 2nd loan on a car, saving pennies! but each time I return home it cuts into my paychecks for the next 2-3 months. We haven't solved her murder and all states need to change to DNA at arrest so I can't stop. Hopefully money raised from this event can help fund more CARAVAN TO CATCH A KILLER tours. I have done this mostly on my own for 4 years and I can't find funds to do again in March at this point. I will, hopefully with some others, present on a few topics such as "why victims respond in different ways", "Will my traumatic experience always haunt me" and any other issues requested here. Along with being a mother of a homicide victim, I am a traum survivot myself and have been a trauma therapist for about 30 years. WE ALSO ARE LOOKING FOR A VENUE FOR THE ART SHOW--I.E. A BUILDING
